Apple Camp

Apple announced this week their summer day camps for kids 8 – 12 yrs old.  I stumbled across these camps last summer during a visit to my local Apple store.  They looked like super fun.  I know my daughter would love the photo one, but she still has to wait a year.  They offer camps in photography (iPhoto), video (iMovie), music (GarageBand), and presentations (keynote).

Could be a great opportunity to expose any Jr Highers you work with to media arts.

Check it out.

Presentation Software

One of the questions I hear most often from my Mac using youth ministry friends is what is the best presentation software. Everyone I knew was looking for a Mac equivalent to Media Shout, I know quite a few people that were really disappointed when Media Shout abandoned their Mac version. Recently though it seems like there are more and more options for this. Here’s a run down of the ones I’m aware of:

  • Keynote – It’s a favorite among a lot of users. It has incredible tools for creating awesome looking presentations. Great all around software. It will be cool to see what Apple does with it now that Core Animation is on the scene. As part of Apple’s iWork suite, it really affordable. One potential drawback is there’s no specific ministry features.
  • PowerPoint – The old PC standard, not much to say here. The 2007 version for Windows brought some great new features, it will be interesting to see what Microsoft does with the 2008 Mac version.
  • ProPresenter – Amazing software, the video playback is probably the best out there. I’ve heard the new version adds bible versions to make it easier to add scripture, but I’ve haven’t had a chance to play with it yet. I love the feature set, and it’s pretty easy to use.
  • LiveWorship – I love this software. It’s probably one of my personal favorites. It’s super easy to use and has a great feature set. One of the great things about it is that it is cross-platform so for everyone that has to use their mac in a PC world this allows everyone at the church to use the same software. Plus the team behind it a great group that I’ve really enjoyed meeting at different events I’ve seen them at.
  • iWorship – I just found out about this one, it’s the new kid on the block. It seems super easy to use. It looks great for ministries with volunteers running the media and need something that has a really small learning curve. They have a free beta version available for download, I haven’t tried it out yet, but the screenshots look nice.

Any others that I missed? Let me know what works best for you.
